The Ultimate Paint Correction Challenge
The MTE Paint Correction Competition is held in an independent, dedicated area built specifically for the event. Each competitor is tasked with correcting an 11x17 painted panel that has been evenly sanded by hand with 1500 grit, creating a uniform but highly challenging surface.
The competition format is intense:
- Each competitor receives a 30-minute time slot
- Time is provided to set up tools, pads, and unopened product
-
Once the clock starts, competitors have only 5 minutes to complete the correction process
After completion, the panel is wiped down and judged using a DetailOMeter, measuring:
- Haze
- Gloss
- DOI (Distinctness of Image)
- RIQ
This is true performance testing under pressure.
The Competition Process
The correction strategy was simple, efficient, and highly effective:
Step #1 – Intervention - Twisted wool pad, rotary correction for 2 minutes, even cadence passes and no wipe down between steps
Step #2 – REHAB - Blueberry Freeride pad, 15mm DA polisher for 2 minutes, even cadence passes and no wipe down between steps
Step #3 – Therapy - Grey Freeride pad, 15mm DA polisher for 45 seconds and final wipe with a soft microfiber towel
